Guide to the African Champions League pools

The group stages of the African Champions League resume on Tuesday after a two-month break with some key clashes as the battle for the quarterfinal places commences.

With the opening two rounds having been played in May, there has been a long lay-off for some clubs, while others that have a domestic season which runs from February to November have been active.

That could be a key factor come Tuesday as there are clashes between the fresh, rested clubs and those that have some form but are perhaps...

Fresh Sundowns resume stuttering Champions League campaign

Mamelodi Sundowns resume their stuttering CAF Champions League campaign on Tuesday, when they travel to west Africa to face Group C minnows AS Togo-Port in Lome.

The Premier Soccer League champions took the unusual step of travelling to Togo on Thursday, five days before their scheduled fixture, which will be played on the artificial surface of the modest 10,000-seater, Stade Agoè-Nyivé.

It is a sign of how seriously the South Africans are taking a fixture that is turning into a must-win...

Esperance are nothing special, says KCCA coach Mike Mutebi

KCCA FC are unconcerned by the threat posed by their next CAF Champions League opponents Esperance as they continue to eye a quarter-final berth, according to coach Mike Mutebi.

The two sides meet in Tunis on July 17 as the continent's premier club competition resumes action,

"We are not scared of any team and the boys are working very hard to make sure we get something from this game," Mutebi told KweséESPN. "If we could beat the likes of Al Ahly, who have several national team players, we...

KCCA FC counting on in-form Muhammad Shaban vs. Township Rollers

KCCA FC coach Mike Mutebi is counting on wonderkid Muhammad Shaban to continue his recent hot streak when the Ugandan champions face Township Rollers FC in their CAF Champions League group-stage opener on Friday.

Shaban struck against his former club Onduparaka FC last month, and also netted four goals in the 7-2 demolition of URA FC and a double in the 3-2 defeat by Vipers FC to establish himself as KCCA's chief attacking threat ahead of their trip to Botswana.

"It is good that Shaban has got his...

USM Alger at Confed Cup disadvantage, says Gor Mahia's Aduda

USM Alger could be at a disadvantage in the CAF Confederation Cup after being pitted alongside three East African teams, according to Gor Mahia Chief Executive Lordvick Aduda.

Gor Mahia were pooled into Group D in Saturday's draw, and will have to face CECAFA duo Rayon Sports of Rwanda and Tanzania's Young Africans, although favourites to progress are USMA.

The Algerians were runners-up in the CAF Champions League in 2015, although Aduda believes they could be at a disadvantage in this year's competition.

"This...
